         Botany Bay, New South Wales.  
 

 
   Stuart Thomas Butler [1926-82]  Scientist.  Welsh father.
 

 
   Sir Tannatt William Edgeworth David [1858-1934]  Geologist.  Born in St. Fagans.
 

 
   Lewis Lewis, who along with Dic Penderyn, was sentenced to death for their part in the Merthyr Tydfil riots of 
        1831.  Lewis had his sentence commuted to transportation to Australia.  Penderyn was rather more fortunate.
 

 
   David Davies [1864-1939]  Painter.
 

 
   Sir Samuel Griffith [1845-1920]  Statesman, First Chief Justice.  Born in Merthyr Tydfil.
 

 
    Many Welsh Patagonians emigrated to Australia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

    Clifton Pugh [1924-90]  Painter.
 

 
   Billy [Taffy] Hughes was the prime minister of Australia from 1915 ....1923.  He holds the record of being in 
         parliament for nearly 52 years.  He was actually born of welsh parents in London, but was educated in 
         Llandudno.  He was Welsh at heart and spoke with a pronounced Welsh accent. When asked about his life, 
         he said, " I  am from good Welsh stock and I'm proud of it.  Call me Taffy."
